Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a pioneering member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has questioned the prospect of the Vice President leading the party in the 2024 election.
Given the structure of the ruling party, he believes Dr. Bawumia's chances of becoming flagbearer and, eventually, President are slim, e said.
"I gave an interview to a foreign magazine in which I stated unequivocally that Bawumia cannot come to power under the structure of our party."
"Bawumia is a fine gentleman," he said in an interview with TV3. "If Bawumia had that independent mind and strength and not just always praise what the president has done or has not done, I would have looked at him differently; I know Bawumia very well."
The ruling party is still attempting to 'Break the Eight' by becoming the first political party to win power three times in a row.
The party recently opened candidacy for candidates who want to run for national office to file their nominations.
The party's incumbent General Secretary, John Boadu, is running for re-election, as are Charles Bissue, Justin Kodua, and Frederick Opare Addo.
So far, none of the candidates who wish to run as party flagbearers have declared their intentions.
Many names, including Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and Trades Minister Alan Kyerematen, have emerged as candidates qualified to assist the ruling party in breaking the eight-year streak.

If more than one aspirant spoke to me, I considered the one who was more fluent to be the best candidate. In effect, my opinion of whom a good leader is, was based on his/her ability to speak good English. When I was a fresher, I remember telling one of my seniors that I thought a particular candidate was going to win. He asked me why, and I answered proudly, “because he was the first to come to my class and he spoke perfect English”. He laughed at me and said, “Small boys are young”. After 3 years on campus, it has become clear that I was indeed small and young. I have learnt that ...
