Mathew Opoku Prempeh  GETFund scholarships are not for only needy students – Education Ministry clarifies The Ministry of Education has moved to correct what it believes to be wrong impressions being circulated about who qualifies for a Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) scholarship. Director of Communications at the Ministry, Ekow Vincent Asafuah, said his understanding of the law that governs the fund, Act 581, does not stipulate that the scholarship should be given to only needy-but-brilliant students. “In fact, the same Act 581, sub-section 2(e) also allows the Minister of Education, in consultation with GETFund to promote education in this country, give some of these sponsorships to people to go and learn and come and help this country,” he explained his understanding of the law on Joy FM’s  Super Morning Show  on Monday. Officials of two food importing companies are under investigation by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), for importing four-footer containers of salmonella infested gizzard into Ghana. Even though one of the containers has been impounded, officials say the remaining three which can feed millions of consumers have been cleared and are already on the market. The containers marked as contaminated were imported from Brazil in 2019. Officials of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) say they moved in to impound the containers at the Tema Port, after receiving a tip-off from Brazilian authorities about the infested gizzard. The importers however were able to clear three of the containers ahead of the officials and have succeeded in getting the products into the market. “Out of the four containers three have been cleared and we did a traceback and found out that indeed the importers have taken out three containers and sold the unwholesome products to the general...

Police open investigations into road accident involving Muntaka, Ibrahim The two accident vehicles  Police have opened an official probe into the near-fatal road accident involving two Members of Parliament,  Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak and Ahmed Ibrahim. Two parliamentarians were involved in lorry accident on Kumasi-Accra road and have since been discharged by the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak and Ahmed Ibrahim, legislators for Aswasi and  Banda and three others, including a police officer were rushed to the hospital after their Land Cruiser vehicle ran into the mid-portion of a BMW vehicle driven by a Customs official.

Kete Krachi: Nine die, 51 others in critical condition after road crash Nine persons have been confirmed dead following a road crash at Monkrah between Dambai and Kete Krachi in the Oti Region on Saturday (February 15, 2020). 51 others in critical condition are receiving treatment at the Krachi District Hospital. The Kete Krachi District Police Command has noted that the victims were returning from a funeral when the incident occurred.
