UPSA SRC President suspended over failure to render proper financial accounts MwinZumah SRC President UPSA  The Students Representative Council President of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has reportedly been indefinitely suspended over his failure to give a proper account of how he used some student funds. UPSA SRC President, Peter MwinZumah, was expected to appear before the SRC General Assembly on Monday to answer questions on allegations that his office had misappropriated funds, but he failed to show up. This led the General Assembly to, on Monday, February 24, move a motion for his suspension over his attitude towards the legislative body. 14 aspirants file to contest primaries in 3 constituencies in the North East Region Fourteen aspirants are vying to be elected as New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidates in three constituencies in the North East Region. A statement from the party said at the close of nominations on February 20, three women and eleven men had filed for the primaries which are scheduled for April 25, 2020. In the Bunkpurugu Constituency, four persons, including incumbent, Solomon Namliit Boar, are expected to contest. In Nalerigu-Gambaga Constituency, MP and Local Government Minister, Alima Mahama faces opposition from three contestants. NDC's candidate for Madina tells Christians to 'vote for people who fear God' Francis-Xavier-Sosu  The national Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Madina, Francis-Xavier Sosu, has urged the Christian community in the area to vote for people with the fear of God. According to the private legal practitioner, people who fear God are more likely to lead with love and compassion when voted into public offices. “There is no authority except the one established by God. Togo President Gnassingbe wins re-election in landslide: preliminary results  The results further extend President Faure Gnassingbe's 15-year rule Togo’s President Faure Gnassingbe has won re-election with 72% of the vote, according to preliminary results from the electoral commission on Monday, extending his 15-year rule and a family dynasty that began when his father took power in a 1967 coup. Despite widespread disaffection and protests calling for him to step down, a fractured opposition has struggled to launch a concerted campaign to unseat Gnassingbe in the small West African country of 8 million people. International Monetary Fund lowers global growth forecast China’s coronavirus epidemic will likely cut 0.1% from global economic growth, and drag down growth for China’s economy to 5.6% this year, the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Managing Director  Kristalina Georgieva has said.
